Mobility Consultancy Framework, Antwerp
Strategic consultancy framework appointing an Intendant to coordinate the mobility, liveability and Ring overdecking transformation programme in Antwerp, Belgium.
The Intendant Future Alliance Antwerp framework commission forms part of one of Europe’s most ambitious metropolitan transformation programmes, centred on the long-term regeneration of the Antwerp Ring corridor and the wider urban region of Antwerp, Belgium. Commissioned by the Flemish Government’s Department of Mobility and Public Works, the eight-year appointment seeks a lead “Intendant” and multidisciplinary advisory team to coordinate the strategic balance between mobility infrastructure, urban liveability and environmental resilience across the city. The role combines mediation, stakeholder coordination, urban strategy and infrastructure oversight, bringing together public authorities, citizen groups, transport agencies, designers and engineers to guide the implementation of the Future Alliance Antwerp programme, including the Oosterweel connection, Ring overdecking projects, modal shift strategies and associated public realm initiatives.
At the centre of the commission is the transformation of Antwerp’s Ring from a divisive infrastructure barrier into a connected metropolitan landscape. The wider vision proposes the phased overdecking of major sections of the Ring Road to create new parks, ecological corridors, mobility networks and urban development opportunities while addressing air pollution, noise and fragmented neighbourhoods. The appointed team will oversee stakeholder engagement, spatial coordination and strategic implementation across a series of liveability and infrastructure projects intended to reconnect districts severed by the motorway and establish a more sustainable, climate-resilient urban region. The framework places strong emphasis on integrated planning, public participation and multidisciplinary collaboration, positioning the Ring overdecking as a generational civic project capable of redefining Antwerp’s relationship between infrastructure, landscape and city-making.
