Ulrich-von-Dürrmenz School Renovation, Mühlacker
Mühlacker, Germany is undertaking a major reorientation and comprehensive renovation of the Ulrich-von-Dürrmenz-Schule, transforming it into a modern, four-stream primary school with integrated full-day operations. Deadline 27 Oct 2026
The Ulrich-von-Dürrmenz-Schule in Mühlacker is set for a comprehensive overhaul to meet the evolving demands of modern education and societal shifts. Originally designed as a combined primary and secondary school, the complex now functions solely as a primary school. The project aims to fully reconceive the site, developing it into a modern, four-stream primary school capable of supporting a fully integrated all-day programme. The school comprises a heterogeneous building complex, blending a historic section from approximately 1885 with an extension and connecting structure from 1968. Both parts are significantly aged, with outdated technical building equipment, electrical systems, and considerable accessibility barriers. The current rigid room layouts are unsuitable for modern, inclusive teaching and the logistical requirements of contemporary school and full-day operations. Additionally, the existing outdoor facilities offer limited utility and recreational quality, featuring a predominantly asphalted schoolyard lacking varied play, movement, and leisure areas for different age groups. Structural defects, such as a compromised external staircase, also require attention, and new covered seating areas will be introduced to enhance comfort and provide shelter.
