Tiny Library 2025
An open international architecture competition to design a compact, multifunctional library for remote communities that fosters self-learning and community development
The Tiny Library 2025 competition invites architects, designers, and thinkers worldwide to envision a compact, multifunctional library that bridges the educational divide in rural and remote communities. With the rise of digital, audio, and visual formats, access to learning resources has expanded—yet many communities remain cut off due to infrastructure gaps. This competition challenges participants to create a library of the 21st century, where knowledge is not confined to books but includes modern formats and encourages community engagement. The design should occupy no more than 300 sq.m and serve around 50 users of all ages, blending affordability, functionality, and sustainability. The space must also inspire curiosity, spark innovation, and promote lifelong learning. Participants are expected to select their own rural site in need of educational infrastructure and provide a strong contextual justification. Emphasis will be on creativity, space planning, functionality, sustainability, and the project's ability to be replicated in other locations. The competition aims to spark a movement in architectural thinking—one where design has a meaningful and immediate impact on community empowerment and access to education.
