The Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial – Edition #6
International architecture ideas competition organised by Buildner, focused on designing a memorial at a former nuclear testing site.
This is an architecture ideas competition that invites participants to design a thought-provoking memorial situated at a decommissioned nuclear weapon testing site. The project seeks to confront the enduring legacy and threat of nuclear weapons through architecture alone, without the use of any descriptive text. The competition challenges entrants to communicate their design concepts solely through visual means—plans, sections, diagrams, and renderings—allowing the form, materiality, and spatial experience of the proposal to carry its symbolic message. With no prescribed programme or scale, participants have full creative freedom to interpret the brief and site context, using architecture as a powerful medium to reflect on the destructive impact of nuclear warfare and advocate for a peaceful future.
