The Falkirk Wheel Immersive Experience Building
Design of a new immersive visitor experience building at Falkirk Wheel to enhance tourism, storytelling, and year-round commercial performance.
Scottish Canals is procuring an architect-led integrated design team to design a new immersive experience building forming the flagship element of the Falkirk Wheel masterplan. The project sits within a wider strategy to enhance the visitor offer, increase dwell time and commercial income, and reposition the site as a year-round destination. The building will provide a technology-led, content-rich visitor attraction integrated with landscape, infrastructure, and existing facilities, including AV immersive spaces, visitor amenities, and supporting back-of-house areas. The design team will lead RIBA Stages 2–3 (with potential Stage 4), working alongside client-appointed specialists, with a target programme including planning submission by April 2027 and construction between late 2027 and 2028, aiming for opening in Spring 2029.
