Security Park Redevelopment, Caltanissetta
A design-led transformation of former military barracks into a new civic security campus through an open design competition in Caltanissetta, Italy.
The Parco della Sicurezza di Caltanissetta reimagines the disused Enrico Franco barracks as a civic campus for law-enforcement agencies and community life. Conceived through an open two-stage international design competition, the project combines new headquarters for the Police, Highway Patrol and Anti-Mafia Directorate with housing, shared facilities and a large public park. It aims to reconnect the site with Caltanissetta’s urban fabric, turning a former military enclave into a sustainable, accessible and landscape-rich district. Prioritising energy efficiency, climate resilience and social well-being, the scheme will be delivered using Building Information Modelling and environmental-performance criteria to establish a contemporary benchmark for public-sector architecture in southern Italy.
