Phillarmonic Concert Hall Modersation, Tbilisi
Rehabilitation and modernisation of Tbilisi Philharmonic Hall, in Georgia, through detailed design services, preserving heritage while upgrading systems to contemporary standards.
The project concerns the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Tbilisi State Concert Hall (Philharmonic), a landmark cultural heritage building located in central Tbilisi. Commissioned by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, the brief calls for the preparation of detailed design and cost documentation to enable the comprehensive restoration of the building, while carefully preserving its architectural identity and historic significance. The intervention aims to adapt the existing structure to contemporary performance, technical and operational standards, integrating advanced engineering systems and international acoustic requirements appropriate for a large-scale concert venue.
The scheme is envisioned as a transformation of the Philharmonic into a fully functioning, multifunctional cultural centre, capable of hosting concerts, lectures and a wide range of public events. The design scope includes preliminary research, concept design, detailed rehabilitation proposals, cost planning and subsequent author’s supervision during construction. Particular emphasis is placed on the conservation of the building’s original architectural character, the reorganisation of internal spaces such as the main hall, foyers and shared areas, and the introduction of efficient, modern infrastructure. Through this process, the project seeks to re-establish the Philharmonic as a central node in Tbilisi’s cultural life, enhancing both its local relevance and international profile.
