Kells Theatre and Public Realm
Regeneration of a historic theatre and surrounding town centre sites in Kells to create cultural facilities, artist studios and civic public space.
The project forms part of Meath County Council’s Rural Regeneration initiative and involves the restoration and adaptive reuse of buildings and public realm improvements at Kenlis Place in Kells town centre. The scheme will retrofit the existing Kells Theatre and redevelop a derelict residential building into artist studios and accommodation, alongside upgrades to the existing municipal car park and the creation of a civic plaza for outdoor performances and markets. The site lies within the Kells Historic Core Architectural Conservation Area and extends across several parcels including the theatre, derelict house, council car park and potential future expansion sites. The appointed architect-led multidisciplinary design team will undertake feasibility, outline design, statutory approvals and tender documentation stages under the Capital Works Management Framework (CWMF).
