Greenlaw Triage Room Development, Maine
Maine's Greenlaw Building enhances its laboratory safety and operational efficiency with plans for a new hazardous materials triage facility in the USA. Deadline 22 Oct 2026
The State of Maine, Bureau of General Services, is seeking an experienced architectural/engineering firm to conduct an evaluation, programming, and conceptual design for a state-of-the-art hazardous materials triage facility. This project is designated for the Greenlaw Building's Health & Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) in Maine. The current triage room is deemed inadequate for its intended purpose, leading to critical triage activities being temporarily performed in an exterior tent. The new facility will feature three distinct functional areas: a Sample Accessioning Room for initial receipt and processing, a Transition Area to separate potentially contaminated and clean zones, and a dedicated Laboratory space for further examination and testing. Each area will require comprehensive plumbing and utility connections. The chosen firm will be responsible for detailing functional requirements, equipment, utilities, ventilation, and life-safety provisions. A key challenge involves the limited interior space, necessitating the evaluation of solutions such as renovating existing areas, constructing an exterior addition, or integrating a modular facility. The design must also ensure the safe and efficient movement of materials to laboratory spaces on the third and fourth floors after triage.
