Fritz-Haber-Institut T Building Expansion, Berlin
The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Germany is delivering architectural services for the outdoor areas surrounding the renovation and expansion of Building T at the Fritz-Haber-Institut in Berlin. Deadline 18 Aug 2026
The Fritz-Haber-Institut, established in 1911, is undertaking a significant renovation and expansion of its Building T in Berlin, Germany. This project aims to address a critical shortage of highly-equipped wet-chemical laboratory spaces suitable for robotised operations. The scope involves the partial demolition of existing office cubes and the central hall on the north side of the hexagonal building, followed by the complete removal of technical equipment. A new three-storey extension, including a basement, will be "inserted" into the freed-up space between the partially demolished cubes. This new section will house advanced laboratories, hazardous material storage, and central technical infrastructure. A key feature will be an AI-controlled automated laboratory on the ground floor, with wet-chemical labs and evaluation areas on the floor above. The expanded Building T will have a net usable area of approximately 1,400 m² (gross floor area of 3,370 m²), including chemistry storage, large robot-operated AI-supported chemistry labs, wet-chemistry labs, office spaces, and storage. The overall construction costs are estimated at €22.8 million net. This tender specifically seeks architectural services for the outdoor areas, covering all planning phases from 1 to 9, plus special services.
