Briery Bank Affordable Housing
An architectural competition to deliver affordable, sustainable housing in Arnside, Cumbria, commissioned by South Lakes Housing with community partnership.
South Lakes Housing (SLH), in collaboration with Arnside Parish Council, is seeking an architectural practice to design and deliver an affordable housing scheme on a 0.28 ha site at Briery Bank, Arnside. Outline planning consent has been granted for eight dwellings, originally submitted by Persimmon Homes, and the appointed architect will develop the project from feasibility through to completion. The scheme aims to provide a mix of NDSS-compliant homes, including 1–3 bed apartments, bungalows, and houses, built to high sustainability standards (EPC A and potentially Passivhaus). The programme runs from feasibility in late 2025 through to practical completion in mid-2028, with strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, cost management, and community integration.
