The city of Haldensleben, Germany, is launching a design competition for a new kindergarten, including demolition of the existing building and landscaping. This project aims to replace the current facility with a modern, accessible structure to accommodate 160 children and 27 staff. An interim solution will be implemented during construction to ensure continuous operation. Deadline 25 Sep 2026
The city of Haldensleben, Germany, is initiating a design competition for the construction of the new "Max und Moritz" kindergarten, alongside the comprehensive redesign of its outdoor areas. A key part of the project involves the demolition of the existing three-storey building, which was originally constructed in 1985 using large-panel construction (Plattenbau) as a residential building. The current facility is in a state of disrepair, and its elevated ground floor, accessible only via external stairs, significantly limits accessibility. The building's multi-level layout also hinders daily operations. Due to a lack of alternative facilities, the existing kindergarten cannot be relocated during construction. Therefore, the demolition of the old building will only occur after the new one is completed, with an interim solution planned to facilitate a smooth transition without disrupting services. The new kindergarten is designed to accommodate 160 children, including a nursery, and 27 staff members. The project is scheduled for implementation between 2029 and 2031, with funding anticipated from the "Social Cohesion" urban development programme. The estimated gross construction costs for cost groups 300 and 400 (according to DIN 276) are capped at 6,800,000 EUR.
