JoHanjun Architects’ second-prize proposal for Seoul’s Dongdaemun-gu Community Hall redevelopment imagines a lantern among the trees, its translucent envelope revealing the rhythm of an exposed structural frame. A stage opening onto the park softens the threshold between architecture and landscape, while a planted courtyard and a vertical promenade extend the public realm across multiple levels, setting the scene for performance and everyday encounters.

Make Architects’ proposal for Ulster University’s Teaching and Student Centre reinterprets Derry~Londonderry’s historic towers and gables through three interconnected pavilions gathered around a garden courtyard. Developed with McAdam Design and guided by Passivhaus principles, the scheme brings together warm terracotta tones, tactile interiors and generous spaces for learning and gathering, offering a welcoming new gateway to campus life.
Reposted from @make_architects - always with permission.
Our teaching and learning hub for @ulsteruni has been granted planning!
The design sets three interconnected pavilions around a garden courtyard with landscaped terraces, a secluded setting that nods to the historic parkland of the Derry~Londonderry campus. The massing takes its cue from local heritage, with an emphasis on verticality that echoes the towers and gables of the neighbouring Magee Conservation Area.
Inside are flexible lecture and seminar spaces, computer labs and student services, with social learning spaces threaded throughout. Our interiors concept leaves the steelwork exposed to celebrate the building’s engineering, set against cork and timber for tactile comfort and a layered palette of terracotta and greens informed by spatial psychology research.
Built to Passivhaus principles, and positioned along the western edge of the campus with a bridge link to the library, it will give the university a new front door.
Designed with @mcadamarch as Integrated Consultant Team Lead.

PRSPKT Bureau of Architecture`s design for Dualist in Ufa pairs a striking residential tower with a stepped street frontage, responding to sunlight requirements while respecting the scale of neighbouring buildings. Green façades, gold-toned accents and richly detailed colonnades lend the scheme a distinctive character, while landscaped courtyard spaces, connecting passages and carefully integrated lighting create an inviting setting for everyday life.

ID Architecture’s proposed single-storey home in the Lincolnshire Wolds sits quietly among mature gardens, its textured stone walls and dark pitched roofs framing views across a tranquil pond. Expansive glazing welcomes the changing light, while generous living spaces and three en-suite bedrooms offer a restful setting where daily life unfolds in close conversation with the landscape.
Reposted from @id_architecture - always with permission.
Our latest bespoke residential project has now been submitted for planning, having been carefully developed to address the stringent requirements of Paragraph H011 (formerly Paragraph 84e) of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The policy presents an opportunity to deliver truly exceptional homes in isolated rural locations, where outstanding architectural design and a sensitive response to the landscape are fundamental to the proposal.
The scheme comprises a contemporary, single-storey home that brings together distinctive architecture, high environmental performance and a considered relationship with its rural setting.
Carefully arranged to maximise the exceptional yet private views across an existing pond and mature landscaped gardens, the home incorporates three generously proportioned bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities, alongside open-plan living spaces and a dedicated home office.
The proposal reflects our approach to creating bespoke homes that respond to their surroundings, celebrate their setting and deliver a high-quality, sustainable living environment.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.

This week, Portland State University (@portlandstate) celebrated the grand opening of the new home for the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design (@psu_artanddesign). Designed by LEVER, the four-story building is the university’s first mass timber structure, bringing Art Practice, Art History, and Graphic Design together under one roof. Located at the southern terminus of Portland’s South Park Blocks, the new facility connects the university with surrounding cultural institutions and the city.
The building incorporates cross-laminated timber floors and a glulam column-and-beam system, with 50 percent of the wood used for the glulam components sourced from regional Tribal enterprises. The design includes classrooms, studios, production and technology labs, galleries, and flexible gathering spaces. A protected outdoor courtyard provides space for creative work and community engagement, while ground-floor galleries along Broadway connect the school’s academic programs with the surrounding community.
The project integrates sustainable building strategies, including an all-electric mechanical system, a fully planted roof, and off-site timber fabrication. Developed through a design process informed by student participation, the building supports interdisciplinary learning, flexible academic spaces, and connections to the surrounding urban landscape.

Stephen Taylor Architects’ new homes on the Golf Links Estate in Ealing, delivered with ECE Architecture for Ealing Council, bring Passivhaus rigor and a quiet civic dignity to fully affordable housing, their warm brick volumes punctuated by cantilevered concrete canopies on paired cylindrical columns that mark each entrance. Within, the lobbies rise along a gentle ramp to the bel étage, curling around a sculpted concrete bench set into sage-green glazed tile, where quarry-tiled floors, raw concrete columns, and luminous globe pendants beneath a perforated ceiling turn the daily act of coming home into a small architectural event.

U/U Studio has completed the first phase of its revitalization of Sady Bratří Čapků in Prague’s Vinohrady district, turning a closed asphalt road through the park into an inclusive, cascading strip of play that leads to the forecourt of Kladská Elementary School. Three color-coded surfaces unfold beneath the park’s mature trees, from a sunny yellow field set with in-ground trampolines and red-lined jumping games to faceted banks, ledges, and rails of rose-pigmented concrete crowned by a multi-sided basketball hoop, giving skaters, scooter riders, and young children a shared stage in the heart of the city.

Waugh Thistleton Architects’ Pavilion of the Moment in Istanbul treats timber as a material of change, stacking just two standard profiles of Turkish Pinus nigra into a six-meter lattice that rises from a red plinth against centuries-old Byzantine brickwork. From the outside a crisp, porous cube, the pavilion opens inside onto a spherical void of stepped timber tiers and an opening to the sky, where red-edged boards and knotted grain catch shifting light and shadow, so that no two moments within it are ever quite the same.

Pavilion of the Moment by Waugh Thistleton Architects in Istanbul explores timber as a material of change, creating a temporary space shaped by movement, light and imperfection.
Built from Turkish Pinus nigra using two standard timber profiles, the 6-meter pavilion forms a simple lattice that creates a cube outside and a sphere within, creating a striking spatial contrast.

MGMA Architects has unveiled proposals to transform the former Pilkington Headquarters - a Grade II listed modernist campus in St Helens - into a sustainable, heritage-led residential community. The scheme reimagines the Tower, Courtyard, Lakeside and Museum buildings alongside new-build homes, delivering 292 residences (including 19 floating homes at Lakeside East) along with co-working space, resident amenities, and a destination health and leisure facility, all while celebrating the site`s distinctive relationship between architecture, landscape and the lake.

Our proposals for the former Pilkington Headquarters explore how this abandoned landmark Grade II listed campus could be transformed into a sustainable, heritage-led residential community.
The scheme combines the retrofit and conversion of the existing buildings with complementary new-build development, exploring different configurations across the campus while responding to its distinctive relationship between architecture, landscape and the lake.
The existing Tower, Courtyard, Lakeside and Museum buildings are reimagined through a range of residential typologies, alongside new homes across the wider site. The proposals also introduce co-working spaces, resident amenities, storage and an on-site energy centre, with the former canteen block explored as a destination health and leisure facility.
A total of 292 homes are proposed, each exceeding National Space Standards, including 19 floating homes at Lakeside East, alongside new landscape, pedestrian and cycle connections designed to strengthen the campus as a connected community.
The proposals look to give new life to the former headquarters while retaining and reinterpreting the character, scale and heritage of the Pilkington campus.

Denizen Works has designed Komorebi, a timber holiday cabin tucked into a clearing in Norfolk`s Swanton Novers woods, wrapping a solid, cork-rendered volume in a veil of coppiced timber posts that echoes the surrounding trees and filters light through to the interior. Inside, dark stained timber, natural clay plasters, and a glowing handmade paper lantern draw on Tanizaki`s In Praise of Shadows to create a warm, shadowed retreat that feels both enclosed and deeply connected to the forest.
Reposted from @denizen_works - always with permission.
Planning permission has been approved for Komorebi, a holiday-let cabin in the Swanton Novers woods, constructed from timber harvested on site and milled at a local, purpose-built workshop.
One of a number of bespoke treehouses on the site, alongside designs by @material_cultures @molearchitects and @hudsonarchitects
Our building occupies a small clearing at the threshold between the dense woodland and the open vista of the ride. The architecture seeks to restore the missing trees in the clearing through a vertically articulated timber veil that wraps the main building, formed from primary timber posts with coppiced infill panels representing the species found within the woodland. This screen helps create a sense of enclosure to the treehouse, filters light and provides shading and privacy. The main accommodation is a simple black form clad in cork render - a solid, enigmatic presence glimpsed through the permeable veil.
The treatment for the interiors is inspired by Jun`ichirō Tanizaki`s essay about Japanese aesthetics, `In Praise of Shadows`, which finds beauty in imperfection, aging, and simplicity through shadows and subdued lighting. Dark stained timber is contrasted with smooth natural clay plasters, while a bespoke paper lantern made from recycled drawings of the project creates a soft warm glow at night.

We’re excited to share some renders of our Mixed-Use Aquatics Facility at the Sports Park in Ellinikon, Athens — a new civic space for sport and recreation.
Phase 1 includes a 50m Olympic-size pool with a gym, changing rooms, offices, spectator seating and café. Custom concrete blocks give the building a sense of both solidity and novelty. A regular grid of columns frames the activity of the pool, hybridizing industrial and classical logics to create a civic architecture that feels both familiar and new. Elevated above a public plaza, athletes and spectators look out across the park and towards the sea.

Hayatsu Architects have conceived this stunning building as a welcoming new community landmark and distinctive gateway to Neasden Shopping Centre. In addition to pavement widening, planting (and some signage and art installations with @poor_collective to come later next year) we have just submitted a planning application for a new community building, at the intersection of the north Circular and Neasden Lane. Standing as an independent, pavilion-like building and marking the start of Neasden Shopping Centre, the design is inspired by historic types which functioned as focal landmarks and beacons, such as the Globe Theatre and rotundas, lighthouses and tower houses. The external straw bale walls, with hardwood trims embedded between lime plaster, references Neasden’s heritage, from its village origins to its rapid development following the arrival of the railways.

GRAU Architects’ renovation of Hotel Morava sensitively brings Fuchs’s interwar Functionalist vision into the present while preserving its clarity and connection with nature. Crisp white façades, blue balcony rails and red-framed windows complement calm, light-filled interiors, creating an inviting retreat rooted in the building’s architectural heritage.
Reposted from @grauarchitects - always with permission.
H O T E L M O R A V A
The renovation builds on Fuchs’s original concept of interwar Functionalism, characterised by rationality, clarity of form, and an emphasis on a healthy and hygienic environment. From its inception, the architecture of Zotavovňa Morava reflected a new way of spending leisure time, associated with sport, physical activity, and contact with nature. These principles also became the starting point for its contemporary renewal. The new interventions are therefore not an arbitrary interpretation of historical architecture, but an attempt to make the building’s original idea present again and adapt it to the current needs of its visitors.

Working Title Architects has designed a thoughtfully composed backland family home in Purley, transforming an underused garden into a verdant residential setting. Its steep clay-tiled roof, warm brickwork and lime-rendered elevations reinterpret the area’s Arts and Crafts heritage with crisp contemporary detailing, while carefully balancing privacy, daylight and outlook.
Reposted from @workingtitlearch - always with permission.
We’ve recently submitted planning for a new backland scheme in Purley, South Croydon.
Set within a generous but underutilised garden, the scheme introduces a compact new family home set within a revitalised, verdant landscape. Following a series of in-depth conversations with the Local Authority, the proposals looked to more closely reflect the strong Arts & Crafts character of the local area. This led to the introduction of a bold roof profile, punctuated with architectural elements to create a strong silhouette. The material palette takes cues from the local building stock, with a warm multi-stock brick paired with roughcast lime render and clay tiles. The high-performance building envelope and contemporary detailing help to elevate the scheme, whilst the proposals have been carefully crafted to successfully address concerns regarding privacy, outlook and daylight, which are typical of sites of this type.

Robina, Gold Coast, Australien
