Underbridge #2 – Affordable Housing Series International Competition
Open global ideas competition invites architects to test how underbridge spaces can support adaptable, community-led housing solutions across diverse urban contexts worldwide.
This international ideas competition challenges participants to rethink residual urban space beneath bridges and elevated infrastructure as viable sites for affordable housing. Rather than working to a fixed site, entrants must identify their own location and test how overlooked infrastructural voids can accommodate domestic life while negotiating constraints such as access, noise, and integration with surrounding communities. The brief positions underbridge space as a latent urban resource, asking designers to reconcile affordability with adaptability and environmental responsiveness. Proposals must address how housing can operate within infrastructural leftovers — spaces shaped by movement, scale and environmental exposure—while establishing a sense of community and long-term liveability across varied global contexts.

— One A2 presentation board, anonymous, maximum 10MB

— Spatial, environmental and community integration strategy
— Visual and technical material sufficient to explain concept and viability
— Design quality, innovation and response to the brief
— High value placed on creativity and rethinking conventional housing models
