Steuerwald Campus Refurbishment, Hildesheim
Negotiated two-stage tender to appoint a health-and-safety coordinator for BBS Steuerwald’s major refurbishment and extension in Hildesheim, Germany.
The BBS Steuerwald Vocational Schools in Hildesheim are embarking on a comprehensive transformation that redefines the educational landscape of the region. Occupying a shared site on Steuerwalder Straße, the existing complex of teaching spaces, workshops, administrative buildings, and sports facilities has long exceeded its technical lifespan. Dated façades, leaking roofs, and obsolete building services systems are to be completely renewed, while extensive fire safety upgrades and hazardous material removal (including asbestos and mineral-fibre insulation) will ensure compliance with modern standards. With no alternative campus available, the project will be realised in three construction phases, maintaining full school operations throughout.
This €100 million refurbishment and partial extension represents a decade-long commitment to sustainable educational infrastructure, running from 2026 to 2036. The scheme consolidates existing volumes, introduces a new annex, and reorganises interior layouts to reflect contemporary pedagogical needs. The architecture and engineering contracts have already been awarded; the current tender concerns Safety and Health Coordination (SiGeKo) services in accordance with AHO Booklet No. 15 and the German Construction Site Ordinance (Baustellenverordnung). These specialist consultancy services ensure safe and efficient project delivery during both the planning and construction phases, bridging design intent and on-site realisation for one of Lower Saxony’s most significant educational redevelopments.
