Reinventing Cities, Glasgow
A global ideas competition that seeks to accelerate the development of decarbonised and resilient urban regeneration across the globe.
Reinventing Cities is an international competition initiated by C40 to stimulate
zero-carbon developments across the globe and to transform underutilised sites
identified by cities into beacons of sustainability and resiliency. It has now launched its fourth competition in 15 global cities: Almere, Bilbao, Bologna, Brussels, Glasgow, Milan, New York, Palermo, Renca, Rome, San Antonio, San Francisco, São Paulo, Seattle and Venice. The proposed site in Glasgow is Applecross Wharf and Baird’s Brae, situated along the Glasgow Canal in north Glasgow. The combined sites are located in the heart of the Glasgow Canal Regeneration Action Plan area, within the Applecross-Firhill zone.
Through this competition, cities identify under-utilised sites that are ready to be released and transformed and invite creative multi-disciplinary teams - including architects, planners, developers, investors, environmentalists, creative project holders, start-ups, academics and community associations - to submit proposals that can serve as a model for city landmarks of the future. The aim is to:
- Foster collaboration between the private and public sectors to deliver zero-carbon urban regeneration.
- Support the implementation of innovative ideas that can be rolled out on a global scale.
- Help drive forward public policy to support decarbonized, sustainable, and resilient cities.
- Accelerate the change and innovation in the global building sector, which is responsible for 40% of emissions.
