Aleš South Bohemian Gallery, Czechia
Design of a new building for the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in České Budějovice, Czechia.
The Aleš South Bohemian Gallery is a major cultural institution, not only in our region but also in the whole of the Czech Republic. The idea to build suitable premises for the gallery is not a new one. The South Bohemian Region is keen to play an active role in the architectural competition and ready to finance and implement the project. České Budějovice has been conferred the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture for 2028. There has not been a new building for an art museum constructed in the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia over the last 100 years. The construction of a new AJG building opens up the opportunity to create a place that will not only be a home of art but also an architectural and cultural gem. The goal is to create a space open to dialogue, inspiration and creative expression.
This competition is not merely about the building. It is an invitation to thinkers, visionaries and architects to share their ideas and talent to create a venue that will bridge the past and the future of art. There is no better way to celebrate art and culture of the South Bohemian Region than by creating a space where artists and audiences meet, where new ideas are born and where art becomes an integral part of our lives. And this building,
erected in the centre of the city, will serve as a symbol of our artistic heritage and a hub for cultural events.
