Quartier de la Croix Blanche Housing Units, Thouars
A design competition for the project of a 30-unit social housing development with public realm works in Thouars, France.
The Quartier de la Croix Blanche Housing Units is a forthcoming 30 unit social housing development in Thouars, western France, currently aiming to appoint its design team through an architectural competition. Commissioned by Deux-Sèvres Habitat, the project envisions the new dwellings complex with mixed typologies, replacing four demolished blocks within a landscaped residential quarter that reconnects the site with its surrounding urban fabric. Targeting modern sustainability performance standards and certifications, the programme prioritises environmental quality, energy efficiency, and long-term affordability for future residents. Alongside the housing, the redevelopment includes the requalification of existing garages, improved pedestrian circulation, and enhanced green spaces to foster community interaction. The competition seeks innovative, contextually sensitive proposals that integrate architecture, urban design, and sustainability as core design principles.
