Lavanttal Technology Park, St. Paul im Lavanttal
This competition seeks a comprehensive masterplan and phased realisation concept for the Technologiepark Lavanttal, in St. Paul im Lavanttal, Austria.
Set against the evolving infrastructural landscape of southern Austria, the Technologiepark Lavanttal competition calls for a forward-looking masterplan at the threshold of the new St. Paul im Lavanttal railway station. Emerging alongside the transformative Koralmbahn high-speed line, the project envisions a new innovation district linking Graz and Klagenfurt bringing together research, industry and education within a carefully structured campus environment. Rather than a tabula rasa, the site presents a layered and technically demanding terrain. Existing gas pipelines, overhead power lines and subtle shifts in topography impose a framework of constraints that must be negotiated with precision. The challenge is therefore as much infrastructural as it is architectural: to choreograph buildings, movement and landscape within a network of invisible systems and safety zones. The competition brief calls for a robust yet adaptable spatial strategy, capable of guiding phased development while establishing a coherent identity for the technology park from its first iteration.
