Landscape Planning Services, Ichtershausen
Landscape and environmental planning tender for compensation works supporting the second phase reconstruction of the Gera cycle route in Ichtershausen, Germany.
The Municipality of Amt Wachsenburg is advancing the second phase of the Gera Cycle Route in Ichtershausen, a strategically important regional cycling corridor in Thuringia that reconnects sections of the riverside route along the River Gera. Following the completion of the first phase in 2021, the current project addresses a technically and environmentally challenging stretch affected by unstable embankments, floodplain conditions, and the collapse of existing infrastructure. Based on an extensive feasibility study, the municipality selected the preferred “east of the Gera” route option, which includes the upgrading and widening of the existing riverside cycle path, construction of new embankment stabilisation measures, and replacement of the existing pedestrian and cycle bridge over the river. The commission specifically relates to landscape architecture and environmental mitigation works, including the preparation of a Landscape and Ecological Management Plan, species protection assessments, and the design and implementation of ecological compensation measures associated with the wider infrastructure scheme. The project seeks to balance robust engineering, environmental sensitivity, and long-term public realm quality while delivering a safer and more accessible regional cycling connection through the Gera river landscape.
