Healthcare Support Infrastructure, Osnabrück
New-build hospital logistics and support infrastructure at Klinikum Osnabrück, in Germany, procured through an open EU tender for landscape and transport engineering services.
The Klinikum Osnabrück is undertaking the development of a new Supply and Logistics Centre within its existing hospital campus in Osnabrück, Germany. Positioned along the eastern edge of the site, the new building consolidates essential non-clinical functions, including kitchen and catering facilities, central storage, workshops, laboratories, administrative offices, staff canteen and waste management, into a single operational hub. The project forms part of a broader campus strategy to modernise infrastructure and improve efficiency, requiring the careful insertion of new built form within a dense, fully operational healthcare environment. The surrounding external works and infrastructure are integral to the scheme, restructuring service yards, delivery routes and circulation networks while maintaining uninterrupted hospital operations.
The commission focuses on the design of external works (landscape design) and transport infrastructure, encompassing access roads, service and emergency routes, delivery and manoeuvring areas, planting, surfacing, level changes and comprehensive drainage systems. A key challenge lies in integrating the new facility with existing buildings, utilities and logistics systems, while resolving complex site constraints such as topography, limited space and the need for continuous functionality during construction. Particular emphasis is placed on robust surface water management, ensuring resilience to extreme rainfall events, and on the precise coordination of construction phases to safeguard emergency access and daily hospital activities throughout the delivery of the project.
