Handrail on a Cliff
Competition to rethink the conventional handrail as both a functional and symbolic architectural element.
The "Handrail on a Cliff" architectural competition challenges participants to be creative about the concept of a handrail. Set against the dramatic and austere backdrop of the Black Angel Cliff, rising 1,200 metres above the Uummannaq Fjord in Greenland, this conceptual competition explores how a handrail can reconcile safety with environmental integration. The competition encourages creative, unconstrained interpretations of the handrail—transforming it into a poetic statement that engages with human experience, protection, and the surrounding natural extremes.
