Grand’Place and Town Centre Redesign, Jodoigne
Architectural services competition to redesign Jodoigne’s historic Grand’Place and town centre, in Belgium, into an accessible, vibrant civic space.
The Municipality of Jodoigne has launched a competitive procedure with negotiation for the renovation of the Grand’Place and historic town centre, seeking an integrated design team to redefine the civic heart of the city. With a net construction budget of €2.5 million (excluding VAT and fees) and an estimated contract duration of seven years, the commission encompasses architectural design, landscape architecture, public lighting design, civil engineering infrastructure and health and safety coordination. The ambition is to transform the hypercentre into a welcoming, accessible and contemporary meeting space while reinforcing the spatial and social identity of this historic Brabant town.
The project focuses primarily on the Grand’Place and its surrounding public realm, aiming to create a high-quality, pedestrian-friendly environment that supports everyday use, social interaction and urban vitality. The appointed team will be responsible for the comprehensive redesign of the public space, integrating urban furniture, lighting, surface treatments and associated infrastructure, while carefully responding to the heritage context. Beyond design excellence, the brief emphasises cost control, coordination across disciplines and the capacity to secure public funding subsidies. Up to three teams will be shortlisted to develop a design vision proposal, with the contract awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous tender, balancing quality and price.
