Folca 2
Folkestone & Hythe District Council is procuring a Lead Designer to deliver Phase 2 design for Folca 2’s mixed-use refurbishment.
Folca 2 is the art deco portion of the former Debenhams department store acquired by Folkestone & Hythe District Council in 2020 as a strategic town-centre regeneration asset. The Phase 2 project will take forward the design from an existing RIBA Stage 2 concept to deliver a mixed-use building, with the basement and ground floor intended for retail, hospitality and potentially community uses, and a medical centre to be accommodated on the first and second floors. The brief emphasises flexible, viable commercial layouts, active frontage to Sandgate Road, inclusivity and accessibility (including provision of a Changing Places facility), and a strong sustainability agenda, including decarbonisation requirements linked to funding.
