Cultural Space, Hernani
Intending to construct a cultural venue, public square and biomass heating facility this design competition was lauched by the city of Hernani, Spain.
The Hernani municipality launched a competition to invite architects to envision a new civic and cultural landmark at the heart of Hernani. The project transforms a 4.4k m² municipal site between Sandiusterri, Izpizua and Larramendi streets into a vibrant public square anchored by a multi-purpose cultural venue. The programme includes an auditorium of around 500 seats, rehearsal and creation rooms, flexible event spaces, offices and archives, alongside an underground public car park and a 2 MW biomass plant powering the town’s district heating network. The 2 stage open competition seeks innovative, sustainable and contextually sensitive proposals that strengthen connections between Hernani’s historic centre and Lizeaga neighbourhood, combining contemporary architecture with thoughtful urban regeneration.
