Claydach Gateway
A design consultancy tender to enhance the historic Clydach Gateway site in Monmouthshire, integrating heritage preservation, landscape improvements, and visitor facilities.
The project focuses on the Clydach Gateway, a heritage and recreational site comprising the Scheduled Monument remains of the Clydach Ironworks (1795–1871), alongside a car park and picnic area within the Blaenavon World Heritage Site and Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Monmouthshire County Council, with funding from the Welsh Government’s Heads of the Valleys Legacy scheme, seeks a consultant to assess, design, and oversee site enhancements. These include new visitor welcome facilities, connectivity between the ironworks, picnic site and car park, improved accessibility and inclusivity, reinstatement of historic trails, interpretation, signage, and biodiversity measures. The appointed consultant will manage the project through design, consultation, permissions, tender preparation, and implementation, with delivery scheduled from late 2025 to March 2027.
