Hébergement communautaire sur pilotis, Torosiaje
International ideas competition invites architects to test how small-scale hospitality can mediate between tourism and marine community life in Torosiaje, Indonesia.
This competition asks participants to design a small overwater accommodation within the floating village of Torosiaje, on the southern coast of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The proposal must host 6–8 guests and integrate essential sleeping, shared and social spaces within a fragile marine settlement defined by stilt structures, walkways and boat-based mobility. The brief challenges architects to reconcile tourism with cultural continuity, testing how a minimal intervention can support local livelihoods without disrupting ecological balance or community patterns. Proposals must negotiate exposure to tides, climate and material constraints while positioning architecture as a mediator between visitor experience and the Bajau community’s relationship with the sea.
