This project focuses on a targeted, high-value renewal of building systems and selected interior upgrades for the William S. Smith Library. The proposed scope encompasses improvements to the building envelope, waste and restroom plumbing, electrical and lighting systems, and specialised HVAC for archival storage. It also includes remediation of abandoned infrastructure and essential enhancements for accessibility and code compliance. Interior upgrade opportunities involve new or refreshed finishes, furniture, library shelving, and strategic reconfiguration to enhance space functionality and user experience. The final project scope will be refined during the design process to optimise outcomes within available resources. The owner is seeking an architectural/engineering firm to provide comprehensive design services, including the development of plans and specifications through schematic, design development, and construction documents. The successful firm will be responsible for at least 50% of the architectural design services in-house, with potential for an associated firm to contribute up to 50%. The design guidelines emphasise attractive, contextual, energy-efficient, sustainable, economical, durable, comfortable, secure, and "smart" building designs that achieve high value for the institution and adapt to evolving academic technology.
