Reismühle Competition, Halfing
Halfing, Germany, plans town centre regeneration, transforming its historic mill for public use and creating new commercial and residential buildings. Deadline 19 Oct 2026
The municipality of Halfing in Bavaria, Germany, is launching an architectural competition for the significant regeneration of its town centre, focusing on the historic Reismühle and the adjacent Brunnerhaus. The project involves the comprehensive conversion of the former Reismühle, a listed building, into various public amenities including a citizen's office, municipal library, event hall, and spaces for local clubs, covering approximately 1,900 sqm of gross floor area. Simultaneously, the not-yet-conservable Brunnerhaus, scheduled for demolition in August 2026, will be replaced with a new building providing approximately 1,530 sqm for commercial and residential uses. The scope also encompasses the design of the surrounding outdoor spaces, totalling around 1,240 sqm, as well as an conceptual plan for the adjacent streets and public squares. The competition seeks contemporary architectural designs that demonstrate high aesthetic quality, energy efficiency, and cost-effective construction. The client aims to commission the necessary architectural and landscape architectural planning services from one of the competition winners following negotiation.
