SOCIAL MEDIA ZEITGEIST
November 30, 2023
Welcome to the first Beedier Zeitgeist list. We have reviewed the social media performance of over 7,000 architecture companies in the UK and Ireland, aggregated follower counts, and presented our findings in a handy table. If you have more than 1,000 followers across the main social platforms, then you should appear on this list. If you don't then please contact us, and we will add you to the next update.
You can browse page by page or jump to any company on the list by typing the name in the search prompt provided at the top. We hope this will prove useful over time in helping companies gauge the success of their social media strategies, against those of others.
The first results are fascinating. The Top 100 contains some of the most prolific practitioners in the UK and Ireland, alongside smaller studios who just seem to be very good at social media!
Top of the list is Zaha Hadid Architects, perhaps unsurprisingly as they are a worldwide brand with a massively influential style. But are they still stretching their social media presence, or are they in decline? No empire lasts forever, and future editions of the Beedier Zeitgeist chart will tell us the answer. The region’s other most internationally recognised group of architects mostly feature in the top ten too – Foster, Pawson, Chipperfield, Heatherwick, Grimshaw, Adjaye, and Rogers – again, their social media following extends well beyond regional interests.
Many of the large successful established firms are also placed high in the top 50 – BDP, Make, RMJM, Hawkins\Brown, WilkinsonEyre, Allies and Morrison, Broadway Malyon, AHMM, Feilden Clegg Bradley, Chapman Taylor, Sheppard Robson, Hopkins, and Squires.
Peppered amongst them are many of the smaller bespoke and award-winning studios led by architects of contemporary renown – including Joe Morris, Farshid Moussavi, Sam Jacob, Ron Arad, Carmody Groarke, Peter Barber, Alison Brooks, and Mary Duggan.
And we see the studios that have emerged in the last ten years to challenge some of the bigger practices for the large commissions recently – Stalan Brand, Ström, Rigby & Rigby, Mae, Studio Indigo.
Architects with different architectural styles are present, with prolific designers from the traditional architectural set appearing in the Top 100 – Ben Pentreath, Ascot Design and ADAM Architecture.
But why are small start-ups like Koto Design and Initiate Architecture riding so high? We are going to ask them to find out, and report back on our discussions. Other smaller studios that are high on the list perhaps have a unique approach or product, or simply use their social media to convey interesting and informative information and experiences.
We hope that as time goes on, this list will be an engaging way of tracking the movers and shakers in our industry – tracking the progress of the new kids on the block, and the decline of the great and the good!
