Wildbienen School Expansion, Berlin
Two-stage negotiated tender seeks a General Planner to extend, refurbish and add sports and youth facilities to Wildbienen-Grundschule campus in Berlin, Germany.
The Wildbienen Primary School Project, in Berlin, reimagines a historic educational site as a contemporary learning campus rooted in community and sustainability. Situated on Keplerstraße 7 and 10, the development combines the refurbishment of the listed school building with a comprehensive campus expansion. The plan includes a new extension with a canteen, a three-court competition sports hall, and an integrated youth recreation facility on the nearby Campus Waldowplatz, forming an interconnected educational and social landscape. The project is being delivered under a General Planning (Generalplanung) contract for architecture, landscape design, structures, building services (TGA), civil engineering, and BNB sustainability coordination, targeting BNB Silver certification for the new buildings.
Designed for the District of Treptow-Köpenick, the school will unfold in two construction phases: first, the new extension and sports/youth facilities, followed by the infill structure and sensitive renovation of the heritage-listed main building, which will remain in operation during works. The project promotes the integration of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, outdoor learning zones, and a shared campus identity that connects education, recreation, and community. With a total construction value of €32.29 million, the scheme balances technical ambition with urban and social sustainability, setting a precedent for adaptive reuse and contemporary learning environments within Berlin’s educational infrastructure.
