St. Nikolai Memorial Redesign, Hamburg
Redevelopment of a heritage site integrating architecture and landscape design in Hamburg, Germany.
The project involves the architectural and landscape reorganisation of the Mahnmal St. Nikolai, a memorial at the ruins of the former main church of St. Nikolai in Hamburg, which was destroyed during World War II. The site functions as a cultural and commemorative location, remembering the victims of the 1943 bombings in the context of the Nazi war of annihilation. The redesign aims to address functional and structural needs, improve access (including barrier-free entry), enhance the museum's entrance and expand unused basement areas. An additional key goal is to integrate a new pavilion for ticketing that blends respectfully with the protected monument and surrounding urban fabric, while underlining the site's historic and civic significance.
