Central Urban Corridor Redesign, Santiago de Compostela
An international two-staged ideas competition to redesign the central urban corridor, enhancing heritage, accessibility, and sustainability within the city’s historic core in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
The City Council of Santiago de Compostela (Concello de Santiago) is launching an architectural ideas competition at concept design level (anteproyecto) to transform the central connector of the city, a linear public space linking Campo de San Clemente to the Convent of Santa Clara. The project forms part of the Santiago 2030 Urban Agenda (AUS2030), aligning with the strategic goal to “avoid urban sprawl and revitalise the existing city” (Objective OE2, Line 2.5). The intervention aims to humanise and reconfigure this 45,647 m² urban axis, encompassing major streets such as Virxe da Cerca, Praza de Galicia, and Rúa das Rodas to prioritise pedestrians, green infrastructure, and sustainable mobility. The winning proposal will serve as a basis for subsequent technical design and execution projects covering five defined segments or “tramos.”
