Bosveld Sports Hall Renovation and Extension, Machelen
The project commissions an architect for designing the extension and renovation of Bosveld sports hall, delivering a phased, sustainable community facility in Machelen, Belgium.
The Municipality of Machelen is commissioning the extension and renovation of the Bosveld Sports Hall, located on Heirbaan 10. This ambitious redevelopment comes as a direct response to the closure of the Robusta Sports Hall, ensuring the continuity of sports and leisure facilities for the community. Beyond addressing the loss of infrastructure, the project also aims to create space for the Jazzmijn dance association, embedding cultural activities within the wider sports complex. Central to the vision is the transformation of the existing building into a Nearly Energy Neutral (BEN) facility, aligning with contemporary standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.
The project unfolds in two distinct phases: Phase 1 introduces a new-build sports hall extension, conceived to expand capacity and provide modern amenities, while Phase 2 focuses on the renovation of the existing sports hall, upgrading its technical, spatial, and environmental performance. With an indicative construction budget of €6.96 million, the design will integrate structural, acoustic, lighting, and landscape considerations, ensuring a balanced response to site conditions and user needs. The phased approach allows for uninterrupted operations, guaranteeing that the facility continues to serve the community throughout its transformation.
