ATU Future Living Lab, Galway
First stage qualification for the design of a new teaching building for the Atlantic Technical University in Galway, Ireland.
The ATU Future Living Lab will see the development of a new building circa 4,100 sqm on the Dublin Road Campus. The project seeks to develop a transformative teaching and learning space, which is cross-disciplinary, outward facing, progressive, linked to research and built on global themes of sustainability and digitalisation. The Lab will broadly comprise three integrated elements:
- a suite of digitally enabled classrooms to address immediate needs and plan for future developments especially in relation to collaborative, digital learning
- a living laboratory encompassing cross-disciplinary facilities focussed on sustainability, with student and staff engagement with the community as a key tenet.
- a digital technology suite to increase capacity to design and deliver on-line/blended content, utilise immersive technology for on-campus learning.

Submission Criteria
Five applicants will be invited to submit a tender.
Criteria for qualification includes:
– Minimum turnover €750k for the last three years.
– €2.6m PII / €6.5m Public Liability / €13m Employer’s Liability
– Lead Architect with 15+ years experience, Senior Architect with 10+ years experience, Assistant with 5+ years experience.
– Three reference projects from the last seven years – design and delivery of transformative teaching and learning spaces in a university which are exemplary in terms of sustainability.
