University House Garden Redevelopment, Bucharest
The University of Bucharest in Romania is undertaking a design competition for the comprehensive redevelopment of the historic University House garden and its annex buildings. Deadline 17 Jul 2026.
The University of Bucharest, in collaboration with the Order of Architects of Romania, is organising a design competition for the refunctionalisation and activation of existing annex spaces, the valorisation of old greenhouses, and the complete landscaping of the University House garden. Located at Str. Dionisie Lupu no. 46 in Bucharest, the site is a significant urban, architectural, and landscape ensemble that currently faces challenges with urban integration, degraded infrastructure, and a neglected garden. The competition aims to transform the garden and its annexes into a vibrant, multifunctional space for cultural and educational activities, enhancing its functionality, accessibility, and connection to the city. The winning design will lead to a contract for comprehensive design services and technical assistance throughout the construction phase. This includes developing a definitive concept, a Zonal Urban Plan, detailed documentation for intervention works, execution details, and a long-term maintenance and management plan. This initiative represents a unique opportunity to holistically rethink and regenerate this historic space, balancing heritage protection with contemporary urban development and community needs.
