Neuwied Day Care Centre, Neuwied
A new 8-group day care centre in Neuwied, Germany, requires comprehensive architectural design and planning expertise. Deadline 13 Oct 2026
The Stadtverwaltung Neuwied is developing an eight-group day care centre on the former Raiffeisenring school grounds in Neuwied, Germany. This project encompasses architectural design services for planning phases (5), 6 to 9, with construction expected to commence by spring 2028. Current planning has advanced up to phase 6, and the building permit application was submitted in March 2026. The selected architectural partner will review existing plans to determine if continuation is viable or if revisions, including an optional phase 5, are necessary after contract award. The design features a two-storey building without a basement, constructed with a solid massing and a thermal insulation composite system using mineral wool. It will be connected to the city's district heating network, incorporating underfloor heating, a rooftop photovoltaic system, and extensive green roofing. The facility includes a regenerative kitchen designed to serve 140 children. The fire protection concept specifies two external escape staircases and direct ground-level exits from group rooms, while the main internal staircase will serve as both a circulation path and a central pedagogical space. Sustainable features include night cooling via the ventilation system for summer thermal comfort, complemented by external blinds and solar control glazing. The project aligns with the DGNB "Silver" standard, although formal certification is not planned.
