Acute Care Expansion, King County
The University of Washington Medical Center Montlake campus in the USA is undertaking a significant renovation to convert 18,500 square feet of administrative space into 24 new acute patient care beds. Deadline 25 Sep 2026
The University of Washington is seeking architectural and engineering firms to provide design services for a major renovation project at its Medical Center Montlake campus in King County, USA. This initiative involves transforming approximately 18,500 square feet of existing administrative space on the fourth floor of the Pacific Tower into around 24 additional medical/surgical acute patient care beds/bays. The project aims to enhance patient safety, create a welcoming and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and incorporate future flexibility for the hospital's clinical needs. It will also address deferred maintenance opportunities where they align with the project scope and minimise disruption to ongoing hospital operations. The project will utilise a General Contractor Construction Manager (GCCM) delivery method and adhere to UWMC Facilities and Sustainability Requirements. The scope of services for the selected firm will encompass comprehensive design work, including programming, medical planning, development of construction and permit documents, review of equipment specifications, and full construction administration services. This also includes structural engineering, assistance with GCCM selection, and coordination with early selected subcontractors and the Department of Health. The project will employ Lean principles, such as Building Information Modelling and Target Value Design, to ensure efficient and high-quality delivery.
