North Yorkshire Society of Architects industry updates: Community engagement
NYSA invite you to attend a talk by Stefanie Stead MBE as she explores the significance of community engagement in architectural design, using the Otley COMMON project, which is transforming Otley Methodist Church into a vibrant social and entrepreneurial hub.
Join Stefanie Stead MBE, Director of Stead & Co. Architects, who will be discussing the importance of community engagement in architectural projects, with a focus on Otley COMMON. This initiative aims to transform Otley Methodist Church into a dynamic social, cultural, and entrepreneurial hub, serving as a prime example of community-driven design.
Stefanie will share how architects can embed community stories into their design work, ensuring the development plan is co-created alongside a business plan that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the local community.
Through the Otley COMMON case study, they will highlight the process of acquiring the building through community shares and explain how community engagement has shaped the project’s goals and plans.
Why attend?
As architects, our role extends beyond design; we act as curators of community narratives, weaving them into the broader frameworks of legislation, compliance, and planning. This event will provide valuable insights into how architects can collaborate with communities to create meaningful, sustainable spaces.
