Fisheries Science Lab, Gloucester County
The College of William and Mary embarks on a project for a cutting-edge fisheries science research building in Gloucester County, USA, consolidating departments and housing significant collections. Deadline 07 Oct 2026
Professional services are being sought for the design of a new 42,350 square-foot state-of-the-art research laboratory building to replace the existing 32-year-old Nunnally/Fisheries Science Laboratory. This new facility will consolidate the Department of Fisheries Science, providing a fish processing laboratory, climate-controlled storage, and faculty research offices and laboratories. A key feature will be the Nunnally Ichthyology Collection (Fish Collection Museum) and Nunally Necropsy Lab, establishing it as the largest repository for freshwater, Chesapeake Bay, and coastal fishes in Virginia. The project aims to enhance collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. The new building will adhere to LEED requirements, supporting William & Mary's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The selected Architectural/Engineering firm must have experience in sustainable design of waterfront/coastal facilities, including sequenced construction and consideration for site environmental constraints such as RPA, 100-year floodplain, and 50-year sea level rise. The role encompasses full design and construction period services, from refining the project scope through to preparing complete construction contract documents for bidding by spring 2029.
