Burn Building Addition, Gaffney
Gaffney, USA, plans a new multi-story fire training facility, incorporating shipping containers for a crucial burn building addition. Deadline 26 Oct 2026
The City of Gaffney Fire Department is commissioning a comprehensive design and build project for a new burn building addition, intended to enhance its multi-story training facility in Cherokee County, USA. This project requires the successful contractor to provide all necessary material, labour, insurance, and design expertise. The core of the expansion involves the strategic integration of nine 40-foot and one 20-foot one-trip shipping containers. A key feature will be a 40-foot container oriented vertically to simulate an elevator shaft, complete with access openings on each floor and a roof hatch. The new facility will include two additional burn rooms, one on the third and one on the fourth floor, each with a wall hatch. Emphasis is placed on safety and accessibility, with two distinct access routes to all floors, seven steel access doors, and eight 36x36 inch swing-open windows. Inside, two sets of switchback stairs, multiple interior walls, and a firefighter retrieval hatch will be installed, alongside safety railings and a parapet-style railing around the fourth story. Further additions include a garage, a cut door prop, relocation of an existing roof prop, and the installation of a 10-foot swing gate on the second-story railing.
