Ten waterfront plots on Abu Dhabi\u2019s Al Reem Island could be developed under one masterplan, following an agreement between sovereign investor Mubadala and TARAF, Yas Holding\u2019s property development arm. Signed on 30 September 2026, the memorandum of understanding covers approximately 5.4 million sq ft of gross floor area on around 655,000 sq ft of land. Mubadala Investment Company<\/a><\/p>\n

The proposal combines apartments and penthouses with commercial space, shops and dining. Landscaped pedestrian routes, plazas and community amenities would link its components and improve waterfront access, with ground-floor activity intended to support a more walkable neighbourhood. In December 2025, it announced a joint venture with Aldar to expand Al Maryah Island, with a gross development value exceeding AED 60 billion. The agreement establishes a framework to assess and progress the scheme, not a confirmed construction programme. Mubadala identifies itself as the investment partner, but the announcement names no architect and discloses no funding commitment, procurement route or delivery timetable. For practices, the proposed mix suggests potential roles across masterplanning, architecture, landscape, public realm and mobility. It also presents a coordination challenge: making separate plots function as a continuous neighbourhood, rather than allowing individual building briefs to determine how the waterfront is experienced.
