This extensive project involves conducting an environmental impact assessment and developing a general plan-level railway technical design for additional tracks between Tampere (Ranta-Tampella) and Nokia (Harjuniitty). Furthermore, the scope includes creating a detailed railway plan for the section connecting Tampere (Lielahti) to Nokia (Harjuniitty).<br \/>\nThis initiative is part of the MAL agreement between the state and the Tampere urban region for 2024\u20132027, which also includes the optional design of the Epil\u00e4 and Harjuniitty stations located within the project area. A preliminary area reservation plan for the additional track was established in 2015, and a 2020 needs assessment identified this project as a crucial development, especially given the growth in local train traffic. Previous key developments on the railway section have already been completed, including the Tesoma station in 2021 and Nokia traffic area improvements in 2025. Construction for the Rauma station is underway, with additional services to Tampere starting in 2027. Both Tampere and Nokia's master plans have incorporated the need for these additional tracks, with detailed zoning plans updated where necessary due to land use changes.
