The JFE \u201cAnna Landsberger\u201d Youth Centre in Berlin-Marzahn is undergoing a comprehensive renovation to restore and modernise one of the district\u2019s most distinctive civic buildings. Originally completed between 1998 and 2000, the three-storey concrete structure (composed of a basement, ground floor and first floor) is defined by its curved geometry, expressive fair-faced concrete, and extensive steel-and-glass fa\u00e7ades. Conceived as an open, transparent and inviting meeting place, the centre serves as a social, cultural and educational hub for young people, offering flexible spaces for sports, workshops, performances and community gatherings. Over time, age-related deterioration and moisture ingress have caused significant damage to the concrete fabric and technical installations, prompting a new phase of architectural renewal that combines conservation, repair and reactivation.<\/p>\n
The refurbishment project, commissioned by the District Office of Marzahn-Hellersdorf of Berlin, includes full architectural services under HOAI \u00a734 for building design, alongside specialist consultancy in structure, building services, fire safety, and building physics. The works encompass the repair of exposed concrete surfaces affected by carbonation and spalling, replacement of building services, renewal of the green roof and roof drainage, and the installation of a new heat pump system to replace the gas-based heating plant.
