Renovation and extension of existing museum within a heritage monastery building in the Netherlands.
The existing museum is located in a monastery, which is listed as a municipal monument. The project seeks to upgrade the facilities and create a more open and welcoming public facing facade to the rear of the building, where there is currently a public park. The museum wants a recognisable and contemporary appearance, which is not seen from the museum square. The renovation will cover an areas of approximately 1,235sqm, while the new construction will be approximately 1,400sqm.

Submission Criteria
Five candidates will be invited to the second stage – with a tender submission that is assessed 70% on quality and 30% on price.
Qualification at first stage requires:
– Demonstrable experience with designing a building of similar scale (at least €4m value)
– Experience of designing a publicly accessible building
– Experience of working within the context of an existing monument
– 500 word vision statement for the project with images
– 500 word statement on how the user and client will be consulted for the project
– 500 word statement on how the function of the building will be maximised through artistic expressiveness, with the old and new, interior and exterior being developed in a contemporary way.
