Biar Association Centre and Auditorium, Alicante
The town of Biar in Alicante has called for an architectural competition that seeks to provide the town with a modern and functional space for cultural and community events.
The Territorial College of Alicante has advised the City Council for the drafting of the project competition for the multipurpose building in the old JESMAR doll factory, located in the historic centre of the municipality. Mayor Magdalena Martínez has highlighted the importance of this project for the cultural and social development of the municipality. “The construction of a new association centre and auditorium will not only provide an adequate space for activities and events, but will also serve as a meeting point for the various associations and groups that form part of the community life of Biar,” she indicated
The existing historic building has three facades and with a rear courtyard. It has a symmetrical structure with a central door, balconies on the first floor and small cambered openings, all of them framed and with decorations on the front. Ashlar in plinths and corners, and plastered and painted in a contrasting colour on the panels. On the roof there is a skylight tower with similar characteristics to that of the Town Hall, which suggests the same author; it has an octagonal drum, being an element that gives particularity to the urban landscape.
