Astruptunet Visitor’s Centre, Sunnfjord
Sunnfjord Municipality is hosting a design competition for the development of a Visitor's Centre on the site of artist Nikolai Astrup's home in Norway.
The visitor/viewing centre is intended to protect the cultural heritage of the site. The facility will include an exhibition centre and café, study and office space. The centre is expected to take a subordinate role in relation to Astruptunet itself, and the proposal must show respect for and safeguard the cultural landscape and the natural values in the area, which are an important part of the great legacy of Nikolai Astrup. Flexibility is also key, to facilitate future changes in needs and usage patterns. The biggest challenge for the project will be accessibility, due to the steep terrain, which will require innovative solutions.

Submission Criteria
Four applicants will be selected from the concept sketch submissions to advance to the design competition. Each will receive approx. £30k for a fully developed competition entry.
For the qualification submission:
Concept sketch of max. 3 A3 pages, including a written explanation of the approach to key elements such as circular economy, local climate and culture and energy use. Sketches must show a site plan at 1:1000, plans and sections at 1:200, and perspective illustrations. This sketch submission will be submitted anonymously.
For the full design competition:
– Situation Plan @ 1:1000
– Exterior Plan @ 1:500
– Section showing how the building is integrated into the landscape @ 1:500
– Floor Plans @ 1:200
– Building Section @ 1:200
– Construction Section @ 1:50
– Illustrations / perspectives of the entrance, view from the west road up to Astruptunet, showroom and cafe. These are not expected to be photorealistic.
– Short project description.
– Drawings /diagrams should show showroom and cafe oraganisation and furnishing principles.
– Area layout
To be submitted on 6 A1 sheets.
